Common misconceptions that people may have as to why they don't need a Will:

•  “I don’t have a house or own anything of significant value” - Many people believe that they do not require a Will if they do not have much in the way of assets. However, things like bank accounts and cars are often overlooked in this case.

•  “I don’t have any family” - If you are living alone or perhaps do not have any direct family, it can be even more complicated for your estate to be dealt with. Any assets you do have may go to the government if you do not have a Will in place. In your Will, you can name your executors (the people who will deal with your estate) and who can benefit from your estate, e.g. a particular charity.

•  “I’m in good health, so don’t need one” - We do not know when we will die and unfortunately, accidents can happen. Would you want to risk your estate going to the government or family members who you may have never met?

You should also consider having a Will made if:

• There are step-children involved
• You have a child with special care requirements
• You are living with someone that you are not married to
• You are responsible for minor children and would like them to be looked after by a specific family/person
